Trump on Trial

Just this past week, former President Donald Trump suffered a loss in his civil fraud case, which has resulted in the ordering of him to pay a penalty of $355 million. The reaction of the media regarding the judge's ruling demonstrates just how different the media views Trump's prospects proceeding the ruling.

In the article "Trump Fraud Trial Penalty Will Exceed $450 Million" published by The New York Times, author Jonah E. Bromwich categorizes the ruling as just and deserving due to Trump's "complete lack of contrition and remorse" (Bromwich 2024). Bromwich also has very little hope that Trump will find a way to mitigate the massive penalties handed to him.

Rather than presenting the ruling as fair and deserving, Fox News'  Bradford Betz categorizes the ruling as an unjust political tactic designed to stain Trump and break him before the 2024 election. Betz even goes as far as to call the ruling "obscene" (Betz 2024)
